KUCHING: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak said it will begin preparations for the campaign following Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) official announcement that it will contest in the upcoming state election.

In a statement, PH Sarawak said it was formally informed by PKR during a meeting yesterday (Feb 23) that its state counterpart will contest in the coming state polls.

“PH Sarawak welcomes this decision by PKR. The Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak and Parti Amanah Negara (AMANAH) Sarawak have, on several occasions, made it clear that we will be contesting in the coming state election.

“But so far, this is the first official statement by PKR Sarawak confirming its participation in the coming state election.

“With this formal announcement by PKR, PH Sarawak will henceforth proceed with the preparation of the campaign,” the coalition said.

It added that in any democratic system, there must be checks and balances.

Earlier, among those present at the meeting were PH Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, PH Sarawak secretary Alan Ling, PH Sarawak committee member Chiew Chiu Sing, PH Sarawak committee members (PKR) Daniel Jani and Ibil Jaya, and AMANAH Sarawak chief Abang Halil Naili.
