TATAU: More than 10 oil palm plantation workers were left with nothing but the clothes on their backs after a six-door workers’ quarters was razed to the ground last night (Mar 24).

Fortunately, all workers managed to escape unharmed in the 9.50 pm incident.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Tatau station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the quarters completely destroyed, with local residents having attempted to put out the flames using 10 fire extinguishers—but to no avail.

Firefighters took over the operation, using an open water source to douse the flames before conducting overhaul works to ensure no reignition.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
