KUALA LUMPUR: The government remains focused on strengthening the gig economy ecosystem to provide a more sustainable, fair and inclusive environment for its workers.

Human Resources Minister, Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, said an engagement session was held with various gig economy platform providers, including Grab, Foodpanda, GoGet, ShopeeFood, Lalamove, Bolt, Halo Delivery, Kiddocare, and FastGig.

He said the discussions covered aspects of social protection, worker welfare, and legal understanding for the service platform providers.

“As I have said previously, every issue and view raised in the earlier session with gig workers will be brought to the next level of engagement with other stakeholders, including worker representatives and relevant parties, to ensure a comprehensive and balanced approach,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

Ramanan added that the MADANI government is committed to ensuring that the development of the gig economy remains aligned with the national human capital development agenda, while creating a fair balance between workers’ interests and the business sustainability of gig platforms for shared prosperity. – BERNAMA
