KUCHING: The annual Kamboh Raya is back at Plaza Merdeka, featuring over 30 stalls offering an array of festive attire and traditional delicacies to complete preparations ahead of Hari Raya.
But it offers more than the excitement of shopping as it also focuses on fostering kindness and community welfare.
The event was launched by Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, and the Mayor of Kuching North City Commission, Datuk Hilmy Othman.
Fatimah expressed pride in Plaza Merdeka’s commitment not only to commercial activities but also to strengthening unity and the community spirit in Sarawak.
“Every time Plaza Merdeka hosts an event, they never forget those in need.
“This is the value we wish to cultivate in Sarawak – unity regardless of race and religion,” she said.
The shopping mall, in collaboration with Babyshop, has sponsored 20 underprivileged children to purchase new Raya outfits.
These children were also treated to a special experience at Wawa Amusement Centre before enjoying a sumptuous iftar meal at The Waterfront Hotel.
Additionally, Plaza Merdeka has donated RM10,000 to the ‘Anak-Anak Yatim and Asnaf Kampung Melayu Bau’ as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative.
Plaza Merdeka is offering special promotions until March 30.
Customers who spend RM199 or more can redeem exclusive Raya gifts.
Those who spend between RM199 and RM349.99 will receive one entry for a lucky draw, while spending RM350 or more entitles them to two entries.
The grand prize this year is an Ora Good Cat electric car.
