ALOR SETAR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to launch the infrastructure development project to support the five-season padi planting programme within two years in Ayer Hitam, near here, today.

The ceremony, set to begin at 2.30 pm, is expected to be attended by Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

When tabling Budget 2025 last year, Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, announced the implementation of the project in the Phase 1 area of the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA), involving an allocation of nearly RM1 billion over approximately 11,000 hectares.

The project is expected to increase padi yield by 15 per cent and boost the income of 6,100 farmers by 43 per cent.

At today’s event, Anwar is also expected to present the Padiberas Nasional Bhd (BERNAS) special aid and flood assistance for the Padi Crop Takaful Scheme (STTP) to farmers.
