Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for decisive action to be taken against a small faction within the Immigration Department who remain comfortable with old practices associated with corruption.
In his speech during a meeting with staff of the Prime Minister’s Department this morning (July 3), he emphasised the need for immediate intervention against those individuals who are tarnishing the department’s reputation and the country as a whole.
While inspecting the Immigration counters at the airport, Anwar praised the majority of diligent Immigration officers who diligently carry out their duties. However, he acknowledged the existence of a small group that persists in adhering to old systems and practices.
“It is evident and, as I have often stressed, there is a small faction that still clings to old practices,” he remarked, highlighting that the responsibility lies with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to take appropriate action.
Although the number of individuals involved is relatively insignificant, Anwar stressed the importance of firm and resolute measures to prevent any damage to the overall integrity of the administration.
