Music and Songs

There’s always music in the air
If we are attentive, hearing with care
Music has always meant, a great deal
Not just to entertain, but even to heal

People sing, when they are happy
There are songs, for those who are sad
Yes, songs have this remarkable ability
To bring up memories, making us glad

And songs can light up, our memories
Taking us to distant, and near places
Even to our mind’s deepest recesses
And across time, and the centuries

The best part is— songs help to uplift
To make our spirit soar, unto the heights
Soaring high, to such degree of uplift
To get healing, comfort, in times of frights

On the Uku

The Yellow Brick Road

A routine dive into the deep ocean
Or so it was thought — and planned
Alas, Fate has her different ideas
She has a sense of humour, that one!

Abracadabra, a road in the deep!
Of yellow brick, in the deep Pacific
Somewhere, near the islands of Hawaii
Everyone has since gone gaga, and high

No ordinary road, the colour for a start
Got everyone into a frenzy, even the smart
Oh, who could have built, such a road!
A Highway to Atlantis, an ancient trod

Man claims to have sent, man to the moon
Yet, his own backyard ‘tis still unexplored
He’s impatient, and always acts too soon
On the unimportant — others just ignored!

A poem triggered by a discovery in the Pacific.

The Cage In The Mind

Beware, it starts as a sin in the mind
Before it becomes, a manifested act
What a cage it can be, mischief in the mind
Beware the entrapment, it precedes the act

A power verse, humbly serving to remind
To beware our thoughts, the ideas we conjure:
What a cage it can be, the mischief in the mind
In the penultimate line, in the last stanza

Maybe, I should paint it, to make a point
If not with colours, how else — to make pinpoint?
Well then, maybe with love as a brush!
As there’s nothin’ stronger, then Love’s rush

So conjure what you may, but dwell not on it
An idea fed steadily, will explode into flame
Once a conflagration, you cannot stop it
As ember in a dry prairie, ‘twill burst aflamed

So beware, it starts as a sin in the mind
Before it becomes, a manifested act
Be not caught in the cage, laid in the mind
For ‘twill drag you down, in a prisoning act

Caged and Barbed

The Call of Pa Mein

I sat in the sun: On the grass
The wind held her breathe
As if pausing to watch, as it passes
But only just for a while, to my regret
Nearby, as the Pa Mada glided
Onwards— leisurely, confidently
Taking her sweet time, in her slow slide
She knows, she’ll reunite with the sea

Transfixed in the moment, I felt it
O yes, I felt the sway
Tho’ there was a subtlety to it
A pull of the heart, ‘tis sure, and fair

I’ve always longed, here to return
To this very place of my birth
From the journey, of outward bound
To the highlands glades, ‘tis the return
I am happy now, as I have found out
That I have had, never actually left
A whispering, louder than a shout
‘Tis always been inside, full of zest

The Star Dunes

Ever graceful, these old ladies
They like to do their pyramid dance
These elegant giant sand dunes
Slowly doing their elegant dance

On the dancing floor of sandy fields
With elegance they dance their moves
In tandem with the call of the winds
A dance on the edge, in the desert winds

The Star Dunes, yes that’s their name
They slowly dance, for they are giants
Oft found, near the edge of the Sahara
Centuries old, but agile dancing giants
