KUCHING: The Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) aims to lower road accident rates in Sarawak during the upcoming festive season.

Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak said this while officiating at the Road Safety Advocacy Campaign in conjunction with Christmas at Farley Shopping Mall yesterday (Dec 22).

Saifullizan speaks to the press.

Held simultaneously in Sarawak, the campaign will run from Dec 23 until Dec 28.

“It also intends to promote a safe and secure environment among road users by placing police officers and personnel at selected locations which are prone to road accidents while ensuring the smooth and controlled flow of traffic, apart from enforcing the traffic laws and regulations,” Saifullizan said when met by reporters.

He stated that the campaign would involve every branch and department throughout the state.

About 700 officers and personnel from each branch and department will be tasked to raise awareness and spread knowledge to the public and local communities on factors related to safety and adherence to traffic laws enforcement to reduce road accidents especially during festive seasons.

“The Royal Malaysia Police would like to remind road users to adhere to the traffic rules and follow instructions of enforcement personnel that are on duty during this festive period.
“Strict action will be taken against road users who violate the traffic regulations.
“Always remember to prioritise the safety of yourself and your family members and remember your loved ones,” he added.
