MIRI: Police here have arrested a local man in connection with a motorcycle theft reported earlier this week, recovering the stolen vehicle in the process.
The case began on Mar 30, when officers received a report at around 6am of a missing motorcycle from the Mosjaya Commercial area, a busy commercial precinct in the city known for its mix of retail and residential activity.
Acting on intelligence gathered during follow-up enquiries, police moved swiftly to track down a suspect.
On Apri 1 at 4.30pm, a team led by ASP Goldy Jangan, head of Miri Central Police Station, detained a man along Jalan Gardenia believed to be linked to the theft.
Officers from the station’s Crime Prevention Unit were involved in the operation, which culminated in the recovery of a Honda Wave motorcycle suspected to be the stolen vehicle. The bike has since been seized as evidence.
The suspect is currently being held at the Miri Central Police Station to assist with further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which covers theft of motor vehicles and carries significant custodial penalties upon conviction.
Police have reiterated calls for public cooperation in tackling crime, urging residents to report any suspicious activity that could assist ongoing enforcement efforts.
