KUCHING: Police arrested a local man and seized 84 ATM cards during a raid in Tabuan Jaya on Friday, believed to be linked to the buying and selling of bank cards in Kuching.
Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said the operation was conducted at 6:00 pm following information from the Calling Centre, involving teams from the Sarawak Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) and the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID).
The suspect, a local Chinese man, was allegedly responsible for sourcing, purchasing and selling ATM cards to unknown individuals around the city.
“Checks revealed that the suspect had three prior criminal records. He has been remanded for four days, from December 13 to 16, under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist investigations,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 424A of the Penal Code, which carries a fine between RM5,000 and RM50,000, imprisonment of six months to five years, or both.
Alexson urged the public to channel any information on criminal activities and cooperate with the police.
