MIRI: Police issued 20 summonses during a compliance operation targeting noisy and modified vehicles at Taman Bulatan here following complaints from the public.
The operation was carried out on Jan 31 by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Miri district police headquarters at a public parking area frequented by motorists, particularly four wheel drive owners.
A total of 25 individuals were inspected comprising 20 men and five women. Police also checked 22 vehicles, including 10 cars, 10 four wheel drives and two motorcycles.
According to police, the operation resulted in 20 summonses issued for a range of offences.
These included driving without a valid licence, unauthorised vehicle modifications, modified exhaust systems, absence of side mirrors, missing or non-compliant number plates, use of fancy registration plates and other structural alterations that breach road regulations.
Police said the enforcement action was prompted by public complaints over excessive noise generated by vehicles at the parking area, which was said to have disrupted public order and caused discomfort to nearby road users and visitors.
Police reminded road users to drive and ride responsibly at all times, comply with traffic laws and refrain from illegal vehicle modifications.
Motorists were also warned against engaging in street gang activities or behaviour that could endanger others or disturb public tranquillity.
The public has been urged to continue cooperating with the authorities by reporting traffic-related disturbances and offences to help maintain safety and order on the roads.
