BAU: Road users here got a surprise when the police launched a crackdown on illegal vehicle modifications and reckless riding on Friday.

Dubbed Ops Motosikal, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) of Bau District Police Headquarters inspected 22 vehicles, including motorcycles, and 27 individuals around the town here and along Jalan Seropak Krokong from 5 pm to 9 pm.

Bau District Police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the operation resulted in 25 summonses for offences, including modified exhausts, no side mirrors, vehicle structure modifications, no driving licence, missing number plates and number plates not compliant with regulations.

“Road users, especially motorcyclists, are urged to obey traffic laws and prioritise safety.

“Parents are also reminded to keep an eye on their children to prevent involvement in illegal riding activities,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

Police added that such operations would continue and encouraged the public to report street racing or reckless riding via 082-763311.
