KUCHING: The Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD) is launching ‘Ops Selamat’ from March 19 to 24 in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said the operations involve 250 personnel and officers from various divisions, units and police stations under IPD Kuching.
He said the focus areas for road accident prevention in Kuching district include Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, as well as several other identified main roads.
“These operations aim to reduce road accidents in the Kuching district, enforce traffic laws and regulations, and educate road users about their safety and responsibilities while on the road.
“It also aims to create a sense of safety and comfort among road users by deploying police officers and personnel at selected locations that frequently experience accidents and traffic congestion,” he said.
He said this at a press conference held in conjunction with the Road Safety Advocacy Programme under the ‘Ops Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri’ at the PETROS Darul Hana Petrol Station, Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin, Petra Jaya, here today.
Alexson added that the operations also focus on crime prevention, particularly house break-ins, especially involving homes left unattended when occupants return to their hometowns for the holidays.
He said the public can inform the police about homes that will be left unattended through three methods: via SMS or the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application, by contacting or visiting the nearest police station, or by filling in the ‘balik kampung’ form on the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) portal or website.
Meanwhile, the restriction on the movement of goods vehicles and heavy vehicles will be enforced on March 19 and 20, as well as on March 28 and 29.
To ensure smoother traffic flow, Alexson said police is also implementing ‘Ops Lancar’ from March 18 to 20 and on March 27.
He added that ‘Ops Selamat’ monitoring teams will operate 24 hours around the Kuching district to carry out enforcement actions, manage traffic flow, and assist road users.
