KUCHING: Police arrested four individuals and seized firearms, ammunition and various weapons following a raid at a house along Jalan Nanas Barat here on Wednesday (Jan 28).
Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said the raid was carried out at about 9.30 pm by a team from the Criminal Investigation Division, assisted by the special Lejang Team.
He said police found four suspects at the premises – three local men and one local woman aged between 20 and 50.
“Further inspection led to the discovery of a modified shotgun, three live rounds of ammunition and 18 spent shell casings.
“Police also seized a kwan dao, a parang, two modified T-shaped iron rods and a PVC pipe, which were found stored and hidden in various parts of the house,” he said in a statement.
Alexson said urine screening conducted on all suspects found three of the male suspects positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Record checks also revealed that two of the men and the woman have prior criminal records.
The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960, which carries a penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.
Investigations are also being conducted under Section 6 of the Explosives and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958, which provides for imprisonment of between five and 10 years, as well as whipping.
