MIRI: Three individuals, including a foreign national, have been arrested in connection with a motorcycle theft in Bekenu.
The arrests were made as part of ‘Ops Lejang’, a targeted operation conducted by the Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in collaboration with the Bekenu Police Station’s Crime Prevention Patrol Unit (RCJ).
The operation, carried out between 12.45 pm and 1.50 pm on Tuesday, successfully led to the capture of the suspects and the recovery of evidence.
The first two suspects, both local men aged 27 and 28, were detained in Kampung Subak, Bekenu. Further investigation and intelligence gathered from the pair directed authorities to a third suspect, a 33-year-old foreign man, who was arrested in Kampung Kawang, Bekenu.
During the operation, police confiscated a stolen Honda C100 motorcycle and a bag containing tools believed to have been used in the crime.
The motorcycle had been reported stolen in late December, last year, in Permyjaya.
All three suspects are now in police custody as investigations continue under Section 379A of the Penal Code. If convicted, they face imprisonment of between one and seven years and may also be fined.
