Police pick up man for drug possession

SIBU: Police arrested a 42-year-old man and seized 93 grammes of drugs worth RM6,397 in front of a house at Lorong Salim here on Wednesday (Jan 15).

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the man was picked up by the Sibu Narcotics Criminal Investigations Department (NCID) around 10 am.

“An inspection found 25 red/silver foil packets, each containing 10 pills believed to be Erimin 5, with an estimated gross weight of 80.3 grammes worth RM5,000.

“Eight transparent plastic packets containing crystalline substances suspected to be Methamphetamine were also found, with an estimated gross weight of 12.7 grammes and worth RM1,397,” he said in a statement.

Zulkipli said the suspect’s Toyota Vios, valued at approximately RM80,000, was also seized.

“The suspect, who has six prior drug-related offences, tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, and benzodiazepines,” he added.

The suspect was remanded for seven days for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted under Section 39B, the suspect may face the death penalty, and under Section 15(1)(a), the suspect may be fined up to RM5,000, jailed for a term of up to two years, or both, and placed under supervision for two years under Section 38B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
