SIBU: Police are seeking the next of kin of an elderly man who was found dead along the pedestrian lane of Jalan Tukang Besi last Saturday (Aug 9).
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the deceased, believed to be of Iban ethnicity, was identified as Uching Besi in his late 60s.
“The man was homeless and had previously been registered with the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
“Preliminary investigations also found that he had a history of mental illness,” he said in a statement.
The body was discovered by members of the public before the incident was reported to Sibu central police station at around 3.43 pm.
Zulkipli said police are appealing for the deceased’s next of kin or anyone who knew him to come forward to assist in further arrangements.
