MIRI: A late-night police operation here resulted in 55 summonses being issued to motorcyclists for various traffic offences.
A total of 21 motorcycles were also seized, with ten detained under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The operation, codenamed Ops Samseng Jalanan, began at 11:00 pm on Saturday 1 and ended at 3:30 am this morning, focused on several well-known racing hotspots, including Piasau residential area, Jalan Piasau, Jalan Pulau Melayu, the Miri By-Pass, and the Marina waterfront stretch.
Miri District Police Headquarters, in a statement, said these are roads that have become unofficial racetracks for groups of teenagers who would ride dangerously.
Led by Inspector Visvanathan Guna Cekeran with a team from the District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, the operation resulted in 55 summonses for various offences, including unlicensed riding, modified exhausts, and motorcycles that did not meet safety requirement for road use and not legally registered.
