MIRI: Narcotics police arrested a local man for having 22g of methamphetamine in his possession on Wednesday (Feb 12).
Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said that the arrest was made at 4 pm around Taman Desa Senadin, Lutong.
The 47-year-old suspect was detained for inspections after he was suspected of being involved in drug distribution activities.
“This led the team to find seven plastic packets containing the crystalline substance in the suspect’s hand.
“The drug, which weighed 22g, had a market value of RM2,420,” he said.
Alexson added that the suspect was placed in the central police lock-up to facilitate investigations under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
If convicted, he could face a prison sentence of up to five years and up to nine strokes of the cane.
Alexson urged those with information related to substance abuse activities, to report them to the nearest police station to ensure that such illicit activities were curbed.
