MIRI: A 54-year-old man was arrested, and Syabu worth an estimated RM630 was seized during a police raid in the Bandar Baru area of Permyjaya, here on Friday night (Feb 7).

Miri District police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division, under the Miri District Police Headquarters, conducted the operation at 9.50 pm.

During the raid, the team discovered and confiscated 5.66 grammes of a substance believed to be Syabu.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a minimum sentence of two years’ imprisonment and a maximum of five years.

Convicted individuals may also face between three and nine strokes of the cane.

The suspect, a local citizen, has been remanded at Miri Court to assist with ongoing investigations.
