Police steadfast in combatting drug trafficking and abuse

SIBU: Police have successfully seized over 3.1 kg of syabu worth RM120,214.90 during a month-long Op Tapis Narkotik carried out by the Sibu Police Headquarters (IPD) from Oct 6 to Nov 6.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkifli Suhaili said the operation also resulted in 221 arrests of 206 men and 15 women, including three foreign nationals.

He said the arrests were made under various provisions of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Poisons Act 1952, with a total of 256 investigation papers opened.

“From the total, one individual was detained under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking, 11 under Section 39A(1), 27 under Section 12(3), one under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, and 181 drug addicts under Section 15(1)(a),” he said in a statement.

Zulkifli added that 246 cases have been brought to court, while 10 individuals remain under remand to assist investigations.

Additionally, five others were charged under Section 39C(1) of the same Act, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and one stroke of the cane.

He reiterated that the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP), through the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID), remains steadfast in its commitment to combat the distribution and abuse of drugs.
