MERADONG: Three repeat drug offenders were taken off the streets of Bintangor town for alleged involvement in substance abuse yesterday (Jan 25).

Their arrests were made by a police task force during an operation codenamed ‘Ops Tapis Khas’.

Meradong police chief DSP Tansli Mering said the men, aged 26, 31 and 35, were picked up and taken to the district police headquarters (IPD) for further actions.

Urine screening test by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) found them positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Background checks also found that each suspect already had one prior drug-related record.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, or imprisonment of up to two years, or both.

In addition, they can also be placed under two years of supervision under Section 38B of the same Act.

Tansli said enforcement against drug abuse in Meradong will remain uncompromising and urged the public to report drug-related activities to Bintangor police station at 084-693222.
