KUCHING: Sarawak police are deploying 457 police personnel for various field assignments during the Malaysia Day national celebration this Saturday (Sept 16).
Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the personnel comprised of 41 senior and 416 junior officers from various departments.
“To ensure that the celebration is carried out smoothly and in an orderly manner without any disturbance, these personnel will be tasked with security control for VVIPs and the public and traffic control.
“They will also tasked with motorcade assignment, flushing, security intelligence and execute action plans for unexpected incidents,” he told a press conference this morning.
On drones, he said they are strictly prohibited in the airspace of the celebration site at Stadium Perpaduan from 8 am to 12 am for security reasons unless permitted by the authorities.
Mohd Azman urged the public to adhere to the law, code of ethics, traffic regulations and cooperate with officers on the ground to ensure that the programme runs peacefully without any disturbances.
Sarawak will play host for the upcoming national celebration on Sept 16.
The celebration is scheduled to start with a pre-performance event at 7 pm and the official event will start at 8.30 pm with the arrival of the Acting Head of State Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.
Among those expected to be present are Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and wife Datin Seri Juliah Salag.
Some 5,000 people are expected to be present for the celebration.
Among the exciting events scheduled for the celebration are the special Malaysia Day book signing ceremony, the Jalur Gemilang Kembara Merdeka convoy parade, and the Malaysia Day concert and cultural performance.
