KUCHING: The public has been urged to refrain from speculating and relying on social media narratives as investigations into a fatal road crash in Sri Aman are still ongoing.

Sarawak Deputy Commissioner of Police Saifullizan Ishak said it is too early to draw conclusions, stressing that a thorough and fair investigation is being carried out.

“It’s still being investigated. It’s still early, and we cannot make a decision that is not fair for all parties,” he told reporters after the 219th Police Day Commemoration Assembly here today (Mar 25).

He was alluding to circulating claims on social media alleging that one of the drivers involved in the crash had delayed lodging a police report.

According to a report, the crash near Kampung Selepong Jinggau in Sri Aman involved two vehicles and resulted in three fatalities and five others injured, with one of the vehicles catching fire.

Saifullizan cautioned against accepting such claims at face value, noting that perceptions shared online may not reflect the full facts of the case.

“Don’t follow social media. You have to believe in our investigation,” he said.

He noted that any action taken would be based strictly on existing laws and procedures, with no exceptions.

Additionally, he said police are committed to completing the investigation promptly to address public concerns and put an end to speculation surrounding the incident.
