KUCHING: Politeknik Kuching Sarawak (PKS) has become the first institution in Sarawak to offer the Asasi TVET Foundation in Engineering Technology Programme, with 33 students beginning their studies for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The programme, introduced by the Ministry of Higher Education through the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education (JPPKK) in 2023, provides a dedicated pathway for SPM school leavers to pursue Bachelor of Engineering Technology degrees within the Malaysia Technical University Network (MTUN).
According to JPPKK Programme and Institutional Planning Division director A Azman Arshad, the programme integrates fundamental STEM mastery with project-based learning and laboratory training to develop human capital capable of critical thinking and competitiveness in the global job market.
“The Asasi TVET programme is designed with a comprehensive curriculum covering academic components, technical skills, professional values, and leadership elements.
“The achievements of the first batch of Asasi TVET alumni at Politeknik Ungku Omar are remarkable, with over 75 per cent of the pioneer students excelling and gaining admission into MTUN universities with high qualifications.
“This record is clear proof of the programme’s effectiveness in producing high-quality students since its launch two years ago and I urge all new students to make the most of this opportunity,” he said when officiating the student intake event at Dewan Jubli Perak, PKS recently.
PKS director Mohamad Nazri Ismail expressed gratitude over the encouraging response to the inaugural intake.
“We are committed to providing a conducive learning environment and offering our full support to help students excel both academically and in character development.
“Today marks the beginning of a long journey in building a career in engineering. Make the most of every learning opportunity and demonstrate your excellence,” he said.
