KUCHING: Sarawak political veteran Dayang Baleh Pengiran Hashim, 93, passed away at her son’s house at Jalan Rodway here yesterday.
The mother-in-law of former Igan MP Datuk Wahab Haji Dolah breathed her last breath at 5.55pm.
According to her son, Ahmat Adai, 51, his mother was very respectful to visitors regardless of their backgrounds.
“In fact, when she was getting older and became unwell, my mother never forgot to pray for the guests’ wellbeing by reciting the prayer of Nabi Sulaiman,” he said.
Ahmat said his mother was a very compassionate and firm person and always prioritised her family even though she was active in politics ever since she was young.
He said his mother’s health started to deteriorate after she fell down at home two weeks ago.
“Although her condition started to deteriorate, we continued treatment but Allah loved her more and she breathed her last breath on Saturday evening,” he said.
The late Dayang left a profound impact in the political world, especially in Central Sarawak.
She was active in politics, especially in Kuala Rajang area from the 1950s until 1970s.
She was an important individual who contributed a lot to the women’s wings until the formation of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera (PBB).
Dayang Baleh also helped the victims of M.V Pulau Kidjang which sank in the Rajang estuary in 1973.
She left behind 10 children, 38 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. She was buried at Samariang Muslim Cemetery.
