KUCHING: At just 22, Muhamad Danial Mohamad Rommel has already carved his name in the history of Politeknik Kuching Sarawak, graduating with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and taking home not one, but three prestigious awards: the Director’s Award, Politeknik Kuching Sarawak, the Academic and Co-curricular Excellence Award, and the Best Project Award.

Danial hails from Matang, and his academic journey began at SMK Green Road before he seized the opportunity to further his studies at Politeknik Kuching, driven by a deep interest in technical fields.

According to him, Politeknik Kuching provided him with the perfect environment for him to grow academically.

“Politeknik Kuching offers strong technical programmes, affordable fees, and excellent lecturers, and it provides the perfect environment for me to grow,” he shared after the Sarawak Zone Polytechnic and Community College Convocation 2025 held at the Dewan Jubli Perak, Politeknik Kuching Sarawak, today (Aug 11).

From his very first semester, Danial set clear goals, serving as the president of the Student Representative Council (MPP), which helped him gain recognition and establish valuable networks both within and outside the institution.

While balancing academics and co-curricular commitments was no easy feat, Danial excelled through extra effort and higher personal targets, graduating with a CGPA of 3.79.

His industrial training at Shah Electrical and Air Conditioning further strengthened his technical skills.

“Manage your time well, no matter how busy you are, and never lose sight of why you started your studies.

“Join study groups, help your friends.

“Don’t confine yourself to your room; learn with friends who are willing to teach and help others.”

Apart from that, Danial never neglected his prayers and believed that perseverance would eventually lead to success.

“Success may not come immediately, but if you keep chasing it, you will achieve it.”

Danial is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) under the Excellent Polytechnic Student Scholarship, with his tuition fully sponsored by the Ministry of Higher Education.

He credits much of his success to his mother, Sharifah Mahani, a lecturer in the Department of Commerce at Politeknik Kuching.

“Her encouragement and support have been my greatest strength.”

Danial’s story stands as a testament to the power of determination, discipline, and the ability to balance multiple responsibilities, proof that with focus and perseverance, excellence is within reach.
