BINTANGOR: The Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) is closely monitoring the upgrading project for the R.C. Pontoons at the Bintangor Jetty, working proactively with the implementing agency and contractors to ensure the project stays on schedule.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, said as of April 26 this year, the project had achieved 46.8 per cent physical progress, with major work packages such as piling, pontoon fabrication, and jetty upgrading currently underway.

Approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), the project forms part of a broader infrastructure enhancement programme, which also includes similar upgrades in Sibu and Bintulu.

“This project is more than just a structural replacement; it represents a crucial investment in enhancing transport safety, boosting economic resilience, and improving public facilities in regional towns like Bintangor.

“It reflects the ministry’s broader vision to deliver impactful infrastructure improvements that meet the needs of all Sarawakians, especially in remote and community-focused areas,” he said.

He said this during a press conference after visiting the site at Bintangor Jetty on Saturday.

To ensure the success and timely completion of this important initiative, Lee stressed that MOTS would continue to work closely with all stakeholders involved.

“We are deeply grateful for the public’s patience and understanding throughout the construction period, and apologise for any temporary inconvenience caused,” he added.

The project, which commenced on November 6, 2024, is scheduled to be completed within 10 months.

As a temporary measure, improvement works are being carried out at an alternative jetty located at Jalan Maju.

These include the installation of fender structures, safety fencing, and other supporting facilities to ensure continuous public access throughout the construction period.
