NOTTINGHAM: Nottingham Forest have sacked head coach, Ange Postecoglou, within minutes of the final whistle following their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.
In a brief statement, the club confirmed that Postecoglou had been relieved of his duties with immediate effect, citing “a series of disappointing results and performances”.
The Australian’s tenure lasted just eight matches after being appointed on September 9 to succeed Nuno Espírito Santo, who departed following reported tensions with owner, Evangelos Marinakis, and dissatisfaction over the club’s transfer policy.
Postecoglou’s short spell yielded only one win, leaving Forest languishing near the bottom of the Premier League table.
Just days earlier, the 59-year-old had struck a defiant tone when questioned about his future, revealing that he had not spoken to Marinakis during the international break.
“But the story always ends the same: you leave me here, let me do my job, it’ll end the same … with a trophy. If I don’t and I’m removed, well, what can I do about it?” said Postecoglou.
The club added that it “will make no further comment at this time”.
No interim replacement has yet been announced.
