KABONG: A postman was arrested yesterday (Oct 1) for allegedly misappropriating company funds amounting to RM5,613.87 for personal use.
Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Maggie said the suspect was arrested after the branch manager of Poslaju Sarikei lodged a police report.
“The complainant reported that a postman stationed at the Kabong mail delivery centre had failed to deposit collection money into Pos Malaysia Berhad’s account and also did not return 69 delivery items.
“During preliminary investigations, the 36-year-old suspect admitted to using the company’s money for his own purposes,” he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 408 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust by a clerk or servant.
Upon conviction, the offence carries up to 14 years imprisonment, caning, and a fine.
