BINTULU: This town holds immense potential to become a hub for discovering vocal talent, not only at the state level but also on the international stage.

Tanjong Batu Assemblyman, Johnny Pang Leong Ming, said that singing competitions should be enhanced and given a fresh new format to cultivate more local singers capable of competing on larger platforms.

“I hope the Sarawak Singing Association and the Bintulu Music Association will continue to think ambitiously by organising more high-calibre competitions.

“We want to see participation not only from across Malaysia but also from abroad,” he said.

He made these remarks during the 29th Installation Ceremony of the Sarawak Singing Association and the 35th of the Bintulu Music Association, as well as the Grand Finale of the ‘Suara Gemilang Juara Terunggul’ Singing Competition Trophy, held at Mandarin Restaurant here on Saturday night.

According to Pang, such initiatives not only elevate local vocal arts but also serve as a platform to introduce Sarawak’s rich culture and heritage to the wider world.

“Sarawak is indeed rich in talent. Music transcends borders, and so should talent. I hope to see tonight’s contestants bring their golden voices to the national and international stage,” he added.

He also highlighted the role of social media in expanding the reach of modern artistic works.

“In line with changing times and technological advancement, social media has created a wider platform for creators and singers to showcase their work.

“It is an opportunity that should be fully embraced by our younger generation,” he said.

In his speech, he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts that empower local arts and culture, particularly in Bintulu.
