KUCHING: The proposal to export electricity from Sarawak to Singapore, Kalimantan, Sabah, and Peninsular Malaysia is unrelated to the state’s Additional or Late Application Fund (ALAF) initiative.

Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said there are still misconceptions among some Sarawakians on the government’s intentions.

“This issue stems from a lack of information, and it is our duty to explain the implementation of ALAF.

“The ALAF initiative is not connected to our future energy export plans,” he said during the his ministry’s appreciation and Pre-Gawai event at Hilton Hotel here, last night.

Julaihi said the implementation of ALAF is still ongoing and is being conducted in phases, particularly in rural areas.

ALAF aims to provide electricity to newly built homes in villages and longhouses connected to the state grid.

The initiative is to alleviate the financial burden of new homebuyers applying for power connections.

Among those present were Deputy Ministers of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang and Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
