SIBU: The Sibu International Remote Control (RC) Powerboat River Challenge 2025 created history when it was recognised in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) as the competition with the largest number of remote control boat participation ever recorded in the country.

The four-day championship, held at Pulau Li Hua Riverfront from July 24, recorded 759 participants from within and outside the country, including participants from Sarawak, Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Labuan, Brunei Darussalam and Thailand.

The certificate of recognition was presented by MBOR officer, Megat Faris Hussien to Sibu Divisional Deputy Resident Christopher Ranggau Unting during the event’s closing ceremony on Sunday evening (July 27); it was witnessed by Machan assemblyman, Allan Siden Gramong as the guest of honour.

Also present were Sibu Divisional Tourism Task Force (DTTG) Secretary, Maria Nadja Jimmy, along with several other special invitees.

In his speech, Allan described the success of organising the event as not just creating a new record but also demonstrating the spirit of community unity and cooperation in making an international-class event a success.

“This four-day event is not only a competition but also a meeting ground and a community unification.

“It fuels the spirit of togetherness when participation includes the entire country and neighbouring countries,” he stressed.
Allan added that the event also had a positive impact on the tourism sector and local economy, in addition to being a platform for cultural exchanges between participants from various backgrounds.

“This success does not belong to individuals alone but is a collective achievement resulting from the dedication, teamwork and commitment of all parties,” he said while expressing his appreciation to the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP), the assemblymen, corporate sponsors, the AB Racing Team technical team, JKKK Pulau Li Hua and Pulau Li Hua Sport Recreation Club.

Meanwhile, Christopher in his speech said that the MBOR recognition was a proud achievement that gave a positive image to the Sibu Division in strengthening water recreational sports at the international level.

“Throughout the event period, no untoward incident occurred. This is the result of the cooperation and efficiency of all parties who ensured the safety and smooth running of the event at the best level,” he added.
