KUCHING: The Sarawak Women’s Federation (PPWS) demonstrated its commitment to community welfare through its Bubur Lemak Sarawak Distribution Programme here on the second day of Ramadan.

The event, organised by PPWS headquarters, saw the participation of Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 And State-Federal Relations) , Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, members and community representatives.

As part of its Ramadan initiatives, PPWS distributed 700 packs of bubur lemak and additional portions of bubur pedas to its members and local surau communities.

The preparation process, carried out in a communal setting, symbolised unity and gratitude, reinforcing the core values of Ramadan — empathy and generosity toward those in need.

“PPWS, established in 1962, currently boasts a membership of 11,928 individuals across 322 branches in 20 districts throughout Sarawak,” said Hasidah at the distribution programme held at Koperwanis Building, Metrocity on Monday (March 3).

She said with a vision of empowering women for family well-being and national development, PPWS actively provides opportunities for women to reach their potential in various fields.

According to Hasidah, the Sarawak government remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering women, recognising their vital role in the state’s socioeconomic development.

“Women’s empowerment programmes can help enhance their skills in various fields, contributing not only to their family’s economy but also to the nation’s economy.

“Skills such as cooking or pastry-making provide them with opportunities to generate income while simultaneously allowing them to save on household expenses,” she said.

“PPWS has also collaborated with various government and private agencies as strategic partners to strengthen its programmes,”she said.

Recently, the organisation worked with The Asia Foundation, SDEC, and StartUp Malaysia to conduct entrepreneurship and mentorship workshops for women.

“These initiatives align with the broader vision of equipping Sarawakian women with knowledge and skills that extend beyond formal education,”she said.

She urged all women to seize available learning opportunities, emphasising that knowledge and skills gained through non-government organisations (NGOs) like PPWS can significantly benefit individuals and families.
