BETONG: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved the establishment of a new agropark in the constituency to drive large-scale modern agriculture in the region.

The decision followed a proposal by Beting Maro Assemblyman, Razaili Gapor, to develop a 10,000-hectare agropark on land across the newly completed Batang Saribas 1 Bridge, covering areas from Tanjung Lilin to Kampung Budak.

He said with the use of artificial intelligence (AI), soil analysis can now be conducted more efficiently to determine the most suitable crops based on land type and potential.

“I have agreed (in principle) to the agropark. Razaili requested 10,000 hectares, so I’ve asked the Land and Survey Department to study the land’s suitability for development.

“From the infrastructure side, I have agreed to establish an agropark in the Betong area,” he said when officiating the Batang Saribas 1 Bridge today.

Razaili had earlier called for the Premier’s support to turn Beting Maro into a food hub through the development of the agropark as a catalyst for large-scale modern agriculture.

He said the proposed site spans the boundary between Beting Maro and Saribas constituencies and holds potential for commercial planting of pineapple, coconut, paddy, herbs and livestock farming.

He added that this agropark will create space for the involvement of investors and high-tech agricultural companies.

“It will also support the use of green technology and enable the production of biomass-based products such as feedstock and renewable energy, in line with ‘Waste to Energy and Waste to Wealth’ initiatives,” he said.
