KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has embarked on a two-day official working visit to Singapore to enhance economic collaboration, strengthen renewable energy partnerships, and advance digital transformation efforts between Sarawak and the republic.
He arrived on Sunday afternoon and was warmly welcomed by Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and Climate Change advisor Dr Angelia Liew San Chuin.
This visit reflects Sarawak’s commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation with Singapore across multiple key sectors.
As part of the official agenda, Abang Johari was scheduled to meet with Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, last night. (Sunday)
Their discussions are expected to cover various aspects of bilateral cooperation, including trade, investment, and joint efforts in addressing climate change.
The following morning, he will have an informal breakfast meeting with Singapore’s Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry Dr Tan See Leng.
The dialogue will centre on opportunities for collaboration in renewable energy and the digital economy, aligning with Sarawak’s ambition to establish itself as a regional leader in green energy.
The highlight of the visit will be a public lecture delivered by the Abang Johari at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, a leading research institute in Southeast Asia.
In his speech, he will outline Sarawak’s strategies for accelerating renewable energy adoption, digital transformation, and building economic resilience in response to global challenges.
The event will be attended by policymakers, industry leaders, and academics, making it a significant platform for discussing climate action, economic innovation, and strengthening regional ties.
This official working visit is expected to further solidify Sarawak’s role as a leader in sustainable development while expanding investment and cooperation opportunities with Singapore in strategic sectors.
