KUCHING: The strength and dedication of the civil service have been instrumental in Sarawak’s success and remain the driving force behind the state’s progress.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that Sarawak is fortunate to have a civil service with vibrant culture and strong unity, which allows them to provide the best service to the people.

“I must say that our success so far is thanks to the dedication of the civil service. Through negotiations, last year we successfully regained control of several strategic entities, including Bintulu Port.

“Under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) negotiations, we also managed to reclaim some of our rights, such as environmental governance.

“This will help establish a comprehensive ecosystem in Sarawak, where these strategic entities are under our control.

“The next thing, of course, is that in the coming year, we need the wisdom to manage all the agencies we have taken over,” he said.

He was addressing the Sarawak Premier Department’s Chinese New Year Celebration at the State Legislative (DUN) complex here today (Feb 12).

Abang Johari called upon the civil service to work together so that Sarawak can move forward under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“Lastly, on behalf of my wife, my Cabinet colleagues and myself, I wish you all a Happy New Year and a Happy Chinese New Year,” he said.

Earlier, the Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datuk Hii Chang Kee, who is the organising chairman said that Sarawakians are indeed fortunate to have a Premier who has continuously championed a new economy for Sarawak towards 2030.

Under his guidance, we have seen remarkable progress in digital transformation, green energy and economic sustainability while ensuring that Sarawak remains at the forefront of innovation and development,” he said.

He added that Abang Johari’s commitment to inclusivity and economic empowerment for all communities reflects the very spirit and aspiration of the Chinese New Year which is ushering in prosperity, abundance and a better future for generations to come.

“The celebration today is unique as it coincides with Chap Goh Mei, the 15th and final day of the Chinese New Year festivities.

“This celebration would not have been possible without the guidance of the State Secretary and also the dedication and hard work of our organising committee, who have put in great effort to make it a success.

“To each and every one of you, thank you for your commitment, teamwork, and perseverance. Your contributions truly embody the spirit of togetherness that defines our Sarawakian identity,” he said.
