KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg continued to embrace the spirit of Ramadan by attending a breaking-of-fast event with the Sarawak Orphan Children Welfare Association (PERYATIM) Kuching Branch on Tuesday (Mar 3).

Held at the Satria Pertiwi Complex, the programme was followed by congregational Maghrib, Isyak and Tarawih prayers.

Previously, the annual iftar gathering with PERYATIM was usually organised at the association’s premises during the tenure of its adviser, the late Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

After her passing, the Premier’s daughter, Dayang Norjihan, assumed the role of PERYATIM adviser, continuing the legacy of charitable initiatives championed under the late Juma’ani’s stewardship.

This year’s event marked a new chapter as it was held for the first time at Satria Pertiwi Complex.

The evening began with a brief tahlil recitation led by Ustaz Kasdinata Hashim, followed by a prayer before guests proceeded with the iftar meal. The congregation then performed the Maghrib, Isyak and Tarawih prayers.

A highlight of the programme was the presentation of personal contributions from the Premier and his family to 63 orphans under PERYATIM Kuching’s care.

The contributions to the boys were presented by Abang Johari, while Dayang Norjihan handed over the assistance to the girls.

The event also included a photography session with the children and ended with a meal after the Tarawih prayers.
