MIRI: The Sarawak government under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has implemented 137 strategic initiatives benefiting all communities statewide as of Jan 8 this year.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said these initiatives span rural development, education, social welfare, entrepreneurship, digitalisation, the green economy, and renewable energy.
He described Abang Johari as more than a leader, calling him the ‘Captain’ steering Sarawak towards progress with clear and courageous direction since 2017.
“Many more bold steps have been introduced in just the past six months alone.
“These include not just macroeconomic strategies, but also direct assistance to the people such as postnatal aid (BIB), Endowment Fund Sarawak (EFS), Kenyalang Gold Card, and health and education incentives.
“These reflect Sarawak’s inclusive policies, driven by the principle of leaving no one behind,” he said during the Sarawak Day celebration at the Miri Indoor Stadium here last night (Jul 22).

Lee noted that Abang Johari’s push for green energy and hydrogen development has brought global recognition, including invitations to international forums and summits.
The minister-in-charge for the 2025 Sarawak Day celebration said Premier’s leadership has also earned him multiple accolades, including awards for green energy, planning, and technological innovation, both locally and internationally.
“This is a major recognition that Sarawak is now being closely observed and respected globally.
“Even top executives from Bank of America met with our Premier to seek his insights for Fortune 500 companies,” he added.
Lee said this reflects the face of a modern Sarawak — progressive, innovative, and inclusive.
He said the state is not only advancing in physical and economic development but also prioritising social justice, environmental sustainability, and active public participation.
