KUCHING: From humble beginnings in rural Sarawak to becoming a beacon of women’s empowerment, the life of Tan Sri Datuk Seri Empiang Jabu was honoured today with the launch of her official biography, ‘A Legacy of Empowering Dayak Women – Tan Sri Dato Sri Empiang Jabu’.

Officiating the event at Hilton Kuching, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg praised the former Sarawak senator and Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) chairperson as a woman of courage, intellect and vision.

“Tomorrow, I will be speaking at the ASEAN Women’s Summit in Kuala Lumpur.

“After hearing Datuk Seri Empiang’s story today, I have gained valuable insights to share with women leaders across the region,” he said.

“Her story is not only inspiring; it is a roadmap for empowerment.”

The biography tells how Empiang, as a teacher, leader and advocate, dedicated herself to uplifting the Dayak community by empowering women through education, leadership training, and economic involvement.

“She has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership,” the Premier remarked.

“By empowering Dayak women, she ensured that the benefits of development reached even the most remote areas of Sarawak.”

Growing up in a rural village, Empiang understood the difficulties of poor communities and believed that education was the key to a better future, which guided her work and inspired government efforts.

“Her journey motivates us in government to prioritise education as a central pillar in our fight against poverty and our efforts to raise the standard of living for all Sarawakians,” said Abang Johari.

He praised her as a lifelong learner and cultural ambassador who travelled widely within Sarawak and beyond to gain new insights, share her experiences with women’s groups, and bring back fresh ideas to uplift her community.

“From humble beginnings, she rose to the pinnacle of success,” he said.

“All of us in Sarawak take great pride in her achievements. Her story will inspire generations to come.”

Describing the biography as more than a personal account, Abang Johari said it serves as a powerful testament to resilience and leadership.

“It reminds us that anyone, regardless of their origins, can make a lasting impact,” he said.
