KUCHING: The night scene at Kuching Waterfront was transformed into a sea of lights and colours as the Kuching Heritage Lights and Floral Festival 2025 was officially launched on Sunday night (Oct 5).

The launch was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who also witnessed the unveiling of iconic lighting installations at three main locations: DBKU headquarters at Bukit Siol, Kuching Waterfront, and the E-Penambang.

Abang Johari was accompanied by daughter Dayang Norjihan, Deputy Premier Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian and other distinguished guests.

The night sky over Kuching was further illuminated by a vibrant fireworks display, adding to the festive atmosphere and delighting the crowd.

According to Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), the newly introduced lighting is more than just decoration, it is expected to become a new landmark that enhances Kuching’s nighttime cityscape, reflecting the beauty, creativity, and unique identity of the city.

In addition, the commission said the decorative lighting has been extended to several other key locations, including the median and landscape areas along Jalan and the Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub Bridge, the Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub Pedestrian Bridge, the Heroes’ Monument area, Padang Merdeka, the Old Courthouse, Satok Suspension Bridge, Satok Pedestrian Bridge, the Kuching Amphitheatre, and the surrounding area of the Sarawak State Library.

“This initiative is seen as a coordinated effort to beautify the city’s nightscape and further strengthen Kuching’s image as a smart, cultural, and tourist-friendly city,” DBKU said.

The festival also features the Floral Festival Exhibition, which showcases the artistic creativity of local talents through floral arrangements, offering visitors a chance to experience the charm of art and nature in a uniquely captivating setting.

This fusion of lights and flora is anticipated to attract both domestic and international tourists, while strengthening Kuching’s image as a creative, sustainable, and community-friendly city.

The Kuching Heritage Lights and Floral Festival 2025 is open to the public from Oct 5 to 8, from 10 am to 10 pm daily at Kuching Waterfront.
