Premier leads more than 300 participants in Sarawak Botanical Garden walk

KUCHING:  More than 300 participants turned up as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg led the ‘Walk For Health with the Sarawak Premier’ programme at the Sarawak Botanical Garden underscoring the state government’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle among the community.

Abang Johari arrived at the venue at about 6.55 am on Sunday (Feb 1) accompanied by his daughter, Dayang Norjihan, and was warmly received by Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, according to a TVS News report.

The programme kicked off with an aerobics session before Abang Johari flagged off participants for a 2.5-kilometre walk around the Sarawak Botanical Garden.

Participants comprised individuals from various walks of life, reflecting strong public support for initiatives aimed at fostering a healthy and active lifestyle.

During the programme, Abang Johari was also briefed by Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Director, Ramzi Abdillah on the locations and ongoing developments within the Sarawak Botanical Garden area.

The event also saw the Premier officiating a symbolic tree-planting ceremony involving Agathis borneensis, also known as ‘raja kayu’, as a mark of commitment to environmental conservation.
