KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg spent the first day of Chinese New Year (CNY) 2025 visiting several open houses, spreading festive cheer and strengthening ties with the Chinese community.
The Premier began his day at the State-Level Chinese New Year Open House at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), arriving at 9.25 am to officially kick off the celebrations. Despite the rain, the atmosphere remained vibrant, with guests embracing the joyous occasion.
Several notable dignitaries were present including, Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
From there, the Premier made his way to Datuk Sri Foo Joo Chung’s residence at the Waterfront Hotel, Kuching, arriving at 10.30 am.
The morning was already in full swing, with the air buzzing with good cheer.
Next on the list was a visit to Datuk Steve Ng Thian Yew, followed by Datuk Dr Au Yong, and Datuk Tan Jit Kee—each gathering a special moment of goodwill and joy as the Premier’s tour continued through the city, spreading festive cheer in his wake.
Accompanying Abang Johari was his deputy, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
As the afternoon unfolded, the Premier ventured to Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam’s residence, a bit later in the day, where another heartfelt gathering took place.
He was accompanied by Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.
To cap off the first day of his festive visits, Premier Abang Johari will round off the evening with a visit to Datuk Goh Leng Chua and Datin Mary’s residence at 8 pm, where the celebrations are set to continue into the night.
