TOKYO: The Sarawak government is exploring collaborative opportunities with Japan’s INPEX Corporation in oil and gas exploration, renewable energy, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS).

These prospects were discussed during a meeting led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

INPEX Corporation were represented by president and CEO Takayuki Ueda, senior vice president for Asia Projects Akihiro Watanabe, and Malaysia representative and general manager Tatsuya Konishi.

INPEX Corporation, a key player in global energy projects across multiple continents, is focused on enhancing the sustainability of its oil and gas operations while expanding its portfolio in five net-zero business sectors.

The company aims to lead the energy transition by providing a diverse range of clean energy sources, including oil, natural gas, hydrogen, ammonia, and renewable energy.

Accompanying the Premier were Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, State Attorney General Datuk Seri Saferi Ali, Financial Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) chairman Datuk Ibrahim Baki.
