KUCHING: Sarawak recorded a promising performance in the first quarter of 2025, particularly in terms of financial stability, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He expressed optimism that the positive momentum would continue into the remaining quarters of the year, enabling the government to step up its rural development agenda.

“I believe our performance in the first quarter was not bad, especially our financial position.

“We hope this trend continues over the next three quarters, which will give us an edge in developing rural areas,” he said.

He said this during the Gawai Dayak celebration organised by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex today (June 17).

Abang Johari said continued attention to rural areas is vital, as many of these locations still lack access to modern infrastructure.

He also noted the state’s ongoing bridge projects, which are expected to further stimulate rural economic growth.

These infrastructure efforts, he said, are already bearing fruit under the oversight of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

“Datuk Amar Douglas is now ‘harvesting’ the results of these bridge developments,” he added.

The Premier asserted that state officers are also actively monitoring progress on the ground as completed bridges open new economic chapters for rural Sarawak.
