SIBU: The much-anticipated inauguration of the new mosque in Sibu Jaya is scheduled for March 1, with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg set to officiate at the ceremony.

The mosque, shaped like a kite, is poised to become the new landmark of the Sibu Jaya township.

Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications (Utilities), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, visited the mosque today to oversee preparations for the opening ceremony.

During the visit, Dr Abdul Rahman also officially handed over the mosque keys to the mosque committee.

The name for the new mosque has yet to be disclosed but it may maintain its old name which is Darul Husna Mosque.

The mosque’s construction prioritises green building principles, emphasising the use of natural sunlight to minimise electricity consumption during the day, thanks to its many mirrors and transparent components.

Designed to reflect the diversity of races and multicultural society in Sibu Jaya, the mosque’s interior space welcomes all, despite its Islamic identity.

Additionally, the mosque is equipped with a hall that can accommodate up to 600 people, open for use by all races within the Sibu Jaya community.
