KUCHING: The Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) will have a new community hostel by September.

DBNA adviser Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the hostel, funded through a grant from the Sarawak government, will benefit the Bidayuh community.

He said the launching ceremony will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the DBNA headquarters in Jalan Ong Tiang Swee.

“The main purpose of our courtesy visit was to invite him to the dinner and, at the same time, to officiate at the opening of the DBNA hostel, which was built with a grant from the Sarawak government through the Premier,” he told reporters after meeting Abang Johari at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi here today.

According to a 2021 news report, the nine-storey hostel complex was planned to be built on the old site at a cost of RM16 million.

The project has a gallery, multipurpose hall and 98 hostel rooms accommodating up to 196 people, along with various facilities to enable DBNA to organise more programmes and activities, including seminars.

During the meeting, Sagah, who led a delegation of Bidayuh leaders and elected representatives, also updated Abang Johari on the progress of development projects in Kuching, Bau, Serian and Lundu.

“We discussed several development progress updates in Kuching, Bau, Serian, and in Lundu,” he said.
