KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will share his views on the future of energy in Australia and Hong Kong.

Abang Johari, who has been actively sharing Sarawak’s hydrogen agenda in various international forums following invitations, highlighted the state’s significant progress in adopting renewable energy.

“Australia has invited me to speak in August.

“And this morning, I received a letter from Hong Kong inviting me to discuss the future of energy there as well.

The world now recognises the importance of energy, particularly hydrogen, which is the cleanest energy,” he said after delivering a keynote address at the US-Malaysia Clean Tech Forum 2024 held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday (June 12).

Recently, Abang Johari has garnered the attention of world leaders, leading to invitations to discuss the green economy in Europe, Singapore, Japan, and Indonesia.

More recently, he delivered a talk on planetary conservation at an international forum in Poland, followed by a discussion on energy in Bangkok, Thailand.

Meanwhile, during the forum co-organised by the United States Embassy in Malaysia, Abang Johari highlighted Sarawak’s diverse and harmonious society, strong command of the English language, and abundant natural resources such as sunlight and water, which are attractive for investment.

Abang Johari also discussed the potential of hydrogen as an alternative to diesel, which could help the federal government reduce the financial burden of fuel subsidies.

Furthermore, he mentioned that Sarawak has the potential to eradicate poverty through technology, leveraging low-cost energy, resources, and technological advancements.

“For instance, if our farmers use machinery, fertilisers, and the Internet of Things (IoT), their yields will increase, meaning their income will also increase, and it will reduce the poverty rate,” he explained.
