Premier visits Miri for CNY, extends support to landslide victims

MIRI: The festive spirit of Chinese New Year in Miri was elevated on its third day with the presence of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Johari Tun Openg, and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

Arriving in Miri at 11.30 am, the Premier was accompanied by members of the Sarawak Cabinet for a series of courtesy visits, fostering unity and goodwill during the celebrations.

Their itinerary began with a visit to the residence of Minister for Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, at Jalan Woodhouse, Tanjong Lobang.

Later today around 2 pm, Abang Johari is scheduled to visit the Miri Hospital, where he and his wife will meet with a victim of the recent Kampung Lereng Bukit landslide.

They also are expected to visit the site of the devastating landslide at Kampung Lereng Bukit, where 25 families, comprising 105 individuals, were displaced.

The Premier and his entourage also stopped at the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Miri Chapter, where the affected families had been temporarily relocated.

Accompanying the Premier were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (Tourism) Datuk Gerawat Gala, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), and Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, president of Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) Datuk Seri Abang Abdul Karim Tun Datuk Abang Openg, and Shin Yang Group founder Tan Sri Ling Chiong Ho.
