SIBU: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s visits to several state leaders’ Chinese New Year open houses are not merely social calls.
Little do people know that attending these open houses also comes with significant responsibilities, as Abang Johari often receives ‘love letters’ from local elected representatives (YBs).
These ‘love letters’ typically contain requests for infrastructure development, concerns from local residents, and other related matters.
“It is a very good thing that the Premier goes around Sarawak during Chinese New Year to visit all the state leaders, including myself and the deputy ministers.
“Normally, when we meet during such festive times, we also bring up certain issues—local issues—to report to him.
“Especially these past few days, as we know, the flooding situation in Sibu, although not as bad as in Bintulu and Kuching. So, I briefed him on the situation,” said Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.
Tiang said this when met by reporters after Abang Johari’s visit to his house at Jalan Terap here.
On Sunday (Feb 2), Abang Johari accompanied by his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Jumaani Tun Tuanku Bujang visited several state leaders, community leaders, and businessmen in the town.
Among them were the residences of Tiang, Bukit Assek assemblyman Chieng Jin Ek, Bawang Assan assemblyman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, and former Dudong assemblyman Datuk Tiong Thai King, to name a few.
